Polen ist in die Gemeinschaft der aufklärerischen Moderne zurückgekehrt. Die autoritäre und polizeistaatliche, von verschwörerischen Kartellphantsien getriebene, katholisch- nationalistische Schandregierung ist abgewählt; eine Reformregierung unter Donald Tusk von der ‘Bürgerplattform’ (PO) ist nun unaufhaltbar. Polen hatte mit der Regierung Jaroslaw Kaczynski die humanistische Wertegemeinschaft verlassen.Eine wirkliche Kehrtwende wird nicht einfach werden. Zum einen weil von Präsident Lech Kaczynski eine Blockadehaltung zu erwarten ist; diese ist trotz der Abschwächung der Präsidialkompetenzen durch die Verfassung von 1997 durchaus noch immer erheblich. Zum anderen weil mit dem wahrscheinlichen Koalitionspartner der PO – der konservativen, ländlich geprägten, katholischen Bauernpartei (PSL) – nur ein begrenzter Spielraum für eine Reformregierung bestehen wird. Immerhin können Vetos des Präsidenten gegen Gesetzesbeschlüsse der neuen Sejmmehrheit mit einer Dreifünftelmehrheit aufgehoben werden. Diese ist für die PO und die PSL mit der Linkspartei (‘Linke und Demokraten’, LiD) wohl zu erreichen. The ‘_political_statements_’ category will only be rarely used on this blog. Mit dem Sieg der Bürgerplatform (PO) (42%) gab es viele Erwartungen, Tusk hat der Emigranten in Großbrittanien Wort gegeben, dass er baut hier (in Polen) die zweite Irland.. Nur ist die Frage, ob es geht mit PSL, die hat andere Meinung in solchen Fragen wie: Steuern, Finanzen (liberal od. sozial), Privatisierung, Gesundheitsdienst und KRUS (Pensionsversicherung f. Bauern).Eine wichtige Sache, ist hoche – wie für polnische Realität, Wahlbeteiligung die ca. 55,8% beträgt – aus der meiner Sicht es ist noch zu wenig, aber es geht in guter Richtung.
Eine wichtig positive Auswirkung von diesen Wahlen ist auch eliminierung wirklich radikalen Parteien aus der politische Bühne: LPR (rechtsextremistisch, pro-klerikal) und Samoobrona (Partei der "Kriminellen").
Was ist auch spannend, PiS (32%) wurde nicht deutlich eliminiert aus der Politik, aber muss Position einnehmen, die nicht nur "Alles gegen PO wird". Muss man bemerken, dass vor zwei Jahren hat man über die sog. PO-PiS gesprochen. Aus dem meinen persönlichen Sicht, große Schade für Polen u. Europa, dass diese Koalition nicht entstanden ist. Einer Balance zw. beiden Rechtlichen Parteien war erwünscht…
Ich denke, dass PiS von hat sich durch dem Pakt mit Tadeusz Rydzyk ("Radio Maryja" Leiter) radikalisiert. Und diese Pakt führte zur Kritik und Streit mit dem PO. Ich bin neugierig, was PO tut mit der sog. Pater Leiter?
Wie hat ehem. Staatspräsident gesagt: "IV Rzeczpospolita (Republik)" ist vorbei" – muss man gleich hinzufügen, dass IV Republik war ein Schritt zur Wiederaufbau/Schöpfung der Demokratie und Verantwortung der BürgerInnen gegenüber Ihre Heimatland… Und IV Republik war Antwort auf die korrupte politische Eliten (SLD), aus dessen Kwasniewski stammt. Man soll es nicht vergessen – Zustimmung f. PiS kommte aus der Not, gegen die korrupte ehem. Komunisten wirken.
Als die letzte, ich hoffe, dass PO macht von Vertrauen, die sie bekommt hatte, Gebrauch und zeigt aller Polnischer, dass sie wirlich eine (gute) Alternative ist. Falls sie es nicht tun, dann über Wahlbeteiligung wie beim diese Wahlen konnte man träumen….
During the pre-election phase many Poles were criticizing that it was difficult to tell, what PO was actually standing for. It is an economically liberal party but neither had the magniloquence of PiS nor a real message to convey. As my colleague has mentioned before, PiS’ fight against corruption appealed to the masses as there is still a huge trauma left behind from the soviet years. PO’s candidate, Donald Tusk was not really perceived as a “leader” for their country. During the election campaign there have been many twists and turns and opportunities for PO… Besides, this party is the only major alternative to PiS and it was not clear whether the frustrated PiS-electorate would prefer to stay at home or actually go to vote and then not vote for a small party but for PO – the reasons for this outcome are manifold.
There will definitely be a substantial change in the style of politics. It will be more diplomatic and tactful. Now it is being chanted, that the new government will be more favourable. However, what seems to be forgotten at large in all the elation, is that the new polish government will not stop pushing forward polish interests, and will perhaps do it in an even more effective manner than the previous. It is as important for PO as it has been for PiS that Poland maintains its “rightful” place within the EU. I question how much we expect from this turn. Nevertheless, I agree that a certain political culture is undoubtedly of utmost importance for the self-conception of the European Union!
The elections in Poland have been anxiously awaited by the EU as well as by the USA and there is a great sigh of relief on both sides. In the near future the stationing of US Missile interceptors in Poland will be decided. The tough negotiations on a topic that has proven to be very controversial will be opened now – after the elections. For Poland it is a two-sided proposal: On the one hand, polls suggest a rather negative response to the missile defense project in the polish public, as Iran is not seen as a potential threat. One of the most influential opponents of the program, former Minister of Defense, R. Sikorski, who has defected to PO( PO itself doesn’t contest the program), points to this lack of public support and is very sceptical about the benefits for Poland. On the other hand, the missile program from a general geo-strategic point of view, is a chance for Poland to strengthen the bilateral ties to the United States and its standing within NATO. This has been stressed by the old PiS-led government. Sikorski, however, demands better profits in exchange. And he is considered a key figure in the process ( irrespective of the government-to-be). I think it will be interesting to see how far the Poles with a new leadership will be able to assert their interests this time.
ich vermute, dass es keine 180 grad kehrtwende geben wird, da auch tusk deutliche konservative linien vertritt- jedoch und gott sei dank nicht in diesem extremen ausmaß wie sein vorgänger. eine öffnung richtung osten und ein deutliches nein zur staitionierung eines raketenabwehschildes währen ein deutliches signal in richtung politische kehrtwende. polen ist kein bundesstaat der usa sonder mitglied der europäischen union und wird sich hoffentlich in naher zukunft auch so verhalten.
Unfortunately I cannot share in these considerations about Poland’s future government and its possible directions. I just wanted to leave a short post regarding the concept of political statements.I am well aware that many people take offense at (social) scientists professing political statements, and I concede that social scientists should not overindulge in them. However, when those who are supposed to give political statements, namely politicians, feel too complacent to speak up where they should (a ‘European disease’ in particular), others, e.g. the scientific community, have to do the job. Even, or as a matter-of-fact especially in a liberal democracy, some ideologies and respective policies must not be tolerated for they would outrage humanity.The previous Poland government did not care for enlightened values, and still, no official from another EU member state really denunciated ‘the evil brothers’ but all acquiesced in their strange claims. In such a case as in many others the scientific community must speak up. However, unfortunately they often do not but prefer to conform with the politicians’s complacency and ‘preach tolerance’ in an absurd context.So I really want to encourage you, Professor Mangott, to proceed (I note that this was not your first comment on Poland) with these political statements as you deem them vital.
Eine Regierung, in der darüber diskutiert wurde, Schiller und Goethe in den Schulbüchern zu streichen, eine Regierung, die Lehrer entlassen hat, die Aufklärungs-Broschüren des Europarats in Schulen verwendet haben, eine Regierung, in der mit der LPR eine Partei vertreten war, deren All-Polnische Jugend durch Warschaus Straßen zieht und grölt ‘Schwule ins Gas’ ist keine Regierung, die der europäischen Wertegemeinschaft angehört hat.
Wenn die “All-Polnische Jugend durch Warschaus Straßen zieht und grölt ‘Schwule ins Gas’ ist keine Regierung”, die zu wünschen ist! Das weckt doch schrecklichste Erinnerungen an fürchterlichste Zeiten in Polen und Deutschland…
Wenn sowas wirklich gerufen wurde, so ist auch drei Jahre danach meine Erschütterung darüber kein bisschen geringer, sondern nach wie vor unaussprechlich groß!!!
